I believe there is always a way. One just has to find it. Especially in real estate one reaches a dead end often and it takes perseverance and a keen sense of understanding what the other party really wants to work out a win-win solution.
Sitting on a plane unplugged for a few hours really allows you to put things into perspective. Most of the times we just respond in the spur of the moment not giving ourselves enough time to think it through. Negotiations are fast paced and often involve a lot of pressure especially when you are on the buy side. I always try to put things into perspective for my customers even when I am not on a plane. The sky is the limit so let's make it work but also realize that it can be ok to walk away.
