The Gabriele Moment‬: Run in Prospect Park

Gabriele Sewtz

Being a Mom feels special to me every day - don't get me wrong there are moments in my life where my patience is tested and I think my Mom can relate but my children make me smile every day – no matter what.

As Moms we always tend to put others first so it was really sweet that my children insisted I do something for myself today. And instead of sleeping in, very tempting, I decided to go for my first run of the season in ProspectPark. I am not an avid runner, in fact I am convinced after the first five minutes I am not going to make it. But then my survival instinct kicks in and I managed the big loop in a little bit more than 40 minutes. And my favorite part was running towards my children and husband who were at my son’s baseball game cheering me on as if I were to cross the finish line of a Marathon. It is all about support, love and not giving up and here’s to all the Moms who day after day make it work – and to my Mom who still cheers me on from afar via Facetime.

The Gabriele Moment‬: In Memory of Carlos

Gabriele Sewtz

A few years back my Dad Winnie boarded a plane from Hamburg, Germany to New York City with a kite. A kite lover used to the strong winds of the North Sea, my Dad set out to conquer Prospect Park while my Mom and I pushed the stroller with Ryan, our first born, loop after loop. Day after day my Dad went into the park flying his kite the summer of 2006, all by himself until Carlos came. These days there is a large well-known kite community in Prospect Park but my Dad and Carlos started it almost 10 years ago, sitting side by side, hour after hour, year after year letting their kites fly up high into the sky until you only saw a tiny spot on the horizon. Today we had a kite flying memorial for Carlos. Taken from us too soon, he and my Dad created a legacy. Carlos and his dog Diego were well-known and loved in the community and today my five year old daughter Keira and I let a kite fly in honor of Carlos. My Dad is no longer able to travel and I wish he could have run over the lawn with Keira today the same way he ran over the lawn with Ryan – but we told him all about it via facetime so this Gabriele moment is for my Dad and Carlos.

The Gabriele Moment: It is all about presentation

I could not resist and had to take a picture of this amazing salad. It was almost too beautiful to eat but then of course I had the first bites with delight.

With food it is very simple, the eyes eat first. But when it comes to real estate it is not much different. As a buyer you want to be able to envision yourself in the space and while someone else’s family photos are really lovely you want to be able to imagine your favorite shots up on the wall. For a seller it can be challenging though to create a shopping experience complementing both the property that a buyer is considering and his concept of himself living in that home. And presentation plays a big role. First impressions stick. It takes a buyer usually only 3-6 minutes to view a property and make a decision – just like me with my salad: It was love at first sight.
